The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute, and the British Film Institute all define a feature as a film with a running time of 2400 seconds (i.e. 40 minutes) or longer. The Centre National de la Cinématographie in France defines it as a 35 mm film longer than 1,600 metres (5,200 ft), which is exactly 58 minutes and 29 seconds for sound films, and the Screen Actors Guild gives a minimum running time of at least 80 minutes.
JaJa Film Productions’ feature films touch on important human rights issues such as the rights and protection of street children and women. The award winning films Lilet Never Happened (2012) and Dede (2017) were the directorial debut feature films of respectively Jacco Groen (Netherlands) and Mariam Khatchvani (Georgia).
JaJa Film Productions’ very first film Lilet Never Happened, a Netherlands-UK co-production, became an instant film festival hit. It was screened at the FIAPF accredited competitive film festivals of Warsaw (Poland), Goa (India), Tallinn (Estonia) and Moscow (Russia) plus over 30 more film festivals around the world. It won an astonishing number of 15 international awards and was one of the best performing Dutch films at film festivals in the last decades. The film has been screened in Dutch cinemas.
The second film Dede, a Georgia-Qatar-Ireland-Netherlands-Croatia co-production, took off by winning the East of the West Special Jury Prize at the highly regarded FIAPF accredited competitive film festival of Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic). Since then the film was selected for over 50 film festivals worldwide. At the Asian Pacific Screen Awards, the region’s highest accolade in film, Dede won the Cultural Diversity Award under the patronage of UNESCO, 2017. The film collected 14 international awards and cinema rights were sold to the USA, Canada, Spain, Greece, China, Australia, New Zealand and Georgia.
In 2018, JaJa Film Productions in co-production with Marieta Landkroon Photography released the classical music video DO NOT SING TO ME, MY BEAUTY by director Marieta Landkroon. The film, with the music of composer Serge Rachmaninoff performed by Dutch soprano Laetitia Gerards, received 5 international awards and special endorsements and was screened at the international multiplatform music service Stingray Music.
